In this feature three globe-trotting wedding photographers Teodóra Simon, Zsolt Rokolya and Péter Herman (Wed Over Hills) describe one of their favourite destinations, Bali which is an ideal destination for both honeymoons and creative photography.
Everywhere you look there is something for the eye in Bali. The fascinating atmosphere of the island and the wild romantic Indonesian landscape attracts many tourists to the area every year. The period between December and the end of February is relatively rainy, so it is better to choose a different time of year to visit the island. Bali is an absolute paradise for creative photography: volcanic mountains, jungles, rice fields, beaches, flower gardens, and amazing Hindu buildings as far as the eye can see.
‘If you are looking for really varied venues, then it is worth not capturing just one place, but taking in the area by scooter, and devoting at least two days to the photography,’ recommends Roky and friends.
Their experience is that the majority of international weddings held on the island are in the Ubud and Uluwatu region. The trend is that couples arriving from abroad rent a villa with a garden, where they hold the wedding with a close circle of guests, using local services. They usually choose a symbolic ceremony, while the official documentation is completed in their home countries.
For those who would prefer a less crowded place, we recommend the little island of Nusa Lembongan. ‘We love spending time with the locals. Everyone is kind and smiling, the fruits are fantastic, and the culture is incredibly rich.’
