This fantastic wedding story is from Brooklyn, New York, and we are proud to share that the beautiful bride wore a Daalarna dress for the occasion. The urban jungle themed wedding was first featured by the one and only Brides magazine. The stunning photos were taken by Deborah Ann Photography.
The lovebirds
Alex and Shannon met at university, dated a few times, and remained friends. But years later they met again in New York City and realized that they were meant to be together. The engagement took place in August 2020, during the quarantine period, „in sweats with takeout and champagne”.
The wedding
The big day was set for 10 August 2021, and they dreamed up a colourful, customised wedding with 60 guests. They chose The William Vale as the wedding venue in Williamsburg. They wanted to see fun, bright colours in the decoration, and even their favourite ice cream food truck – Mister Dips – was among the caterers. The “something blue” tradition was represented at the event by the blue outfit of Alex’s rescued doggie, who trotted alongside the bride throughout the day.
Alex’s bouquet of pink, blue, purple and orange flowers was selected from fresh and dried flowers to fit the concept perfectly. It was also revealed to Brides magazine that the bride did her own make-up and hair, as she considers herself a „self-proclaimed beauty junkie”. She wanted to feel and look like herself on the big day, so she left her hair down, as that’s how she usually presents herself in everyday life.
The Daalarna dress and the accessories
The bride saw the dress of her dreams at Daalarna’s New York partner store, Spina Bride, and chose it with the help of her mother, grandmother and best friend. Alex immediately fell in love with the unique embroidered floral motifs and romantic silhouette of the organza dress.
However, she didn’t have it so easy with the shoes, so she ended up getting more than one prepared for the big day. In the end, a pale pink Mach & Mach high heel was the absolute winner.
Since her dress was a real statement piece, she tried to keep the other accessories to a minimum, opting for a solid pearl and jewelled headband instead of the classic veil. And for the evening party, she swapped her wedding dress for a sparkly Erdem gown.
Shannon chose a suit from Hugo Boss, which he said embodied the perfect blend of classic and modern style. He completed the look with a pair of Gucci loafers.
Best memories
Alex walked down the aisle with his stepfather, as she sadly lost her father when she was 13. The couple said their vows in a beautiful living garden and their choice proved to be not just an extraordinary adjustment but a true wallet- and eco-friendly option.
The couple also wrote their own vows but exchanged them in their home rather than in front of guests, an arrangement that felt more intimate and personal.
After the ceremony, they partied into the night to the tunes of their favourite DJ.
