“The big day was more beautiful than I could have ever imagined. I am not passionate or confident with design, so I enlisted a team to help execute a vision that would fit with the historic features of our home and the magical moments in our garden. It was like a scene out of Midsummer Night’s Dream!”
Interview with the lovely bride, Katie, about their beautiful and elegant wedding in Huntsville, Alabama:
Please tell our readers something about yourself and your background!
I was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama, USA. Dog-mom to Gauge, a 95lb yellow lab/dinosaur. I love to run, ride my peloton and read.
How did you meet your husband?
We were introduced by a mutual friend in 2016. He was living in Huntsville, AL, so we began a long-distance courtship.
How was the proposal?
My husband loves to do the exact opposite of what people expect of him. Society tells us that you need this big, shocking gesture to propose, so he was going to do the exact opposite. We were visiting his parents for the weekend, and I had gone upstairs to get ready to run errands. He followed me up there, got down on one knee, and proposed. Mind you, I was not cute. I was still in my loungewear, top bun and all, it was perfect!
How did you choose your wedding location?
After we got engaged, we were fortunate to find a home in the heart of downtown Huntsville. It was built in 1874, and the current owners had done a great deal to renovate the home while preserving its historic charm.
When we went to visit the home, it made our hearts sing! We knew we wanted to raise our family in that home, and planned our wedding to be set in the secret garden in the back.
How did you find your wedding dress, your Daalarna gown? Why did you choose this specific style?
I knew I wanted my friend Caroline, owner of Carriage House in Birmingham, AL, to help me pick out my dress. I absolutely trusted her style and expertise to pick out something perfect for me.
The Daalarna was the second dress I put on, and I forgot all of them after that. We knew it was THE ONE! The uniqueness of it, the fit, it was all perfect!
How was the big day? What are your favourite memories from your wedding day?
The big day was more beautiful than I could have ever imagined. I am not passionate or confident with design, so I enlisted a team to help execute a vision that would fit with the historic features of our home and the magical moments in our garden. It was like a scene out of Midsummer Night’s Dream!
Which were the most beautiful moments of the event?
Sharing our home with all our family and friends, filling those walls with memories, that was the most beautiful part. We will treasure that night for the rest of our lives.
Do you have any special traditions in your country when it comes to weddings?
In the south, we say the bride needs to wear “something old, something new, something borrowed & something blue”. My mom passed away at a young age, so my something old was her double-strand pearl bracelet. It was so beautiful to see it next to the lace in my Daalarna dress.
Two classically southern things, pearls and lace, yet unique in their features, almost like they were supposed to be put together!
If you could give one advice to our future brides, what would it be?
If you can, delegate as much as you can! Having a wedding stylist that helped me focus our vision, and then a planner who executed at such a high level made my day a complete dream! Not once was I stressed or worried about the details.
