An intimate wedding with family and friends circle is always heart touching – just like Emma and David’s big day.
Would you tell the readers something about your background? Where were you born, how did you meet your husband?
Emma: I’m Irish, a mother of two girls, aged 4 and 2 (almost 3). I met my husband on a night out, he came over to say hello and we have been together ever since.
How was the proposal?
E: The proposal was lovely and actually a bit funny! Just after our daughter was born we made a trip to Kerry. David was acting a bit funny one day as we walked around Killarney, He stopped at a Jewellery store and suggested we get something nice for me, pointing to the engagement rings. I gave out to him because I thought he was joking around. He told me he was serious but I didn’t believe him. We passed another store and I saw a beautiful ring and said if he was ever to propose that it was the ring of my dreams.
But I wouldn’t believe him unless he was down on one knee.
On our second daughters’ christening day and we had a party planned for our close family and friends. Following the service in the church, David announced that he had forgotten his wallet and we needed to go home. I was fuming!! We went home and I brought the baby in to change her. I realised that David had gone into the attic. There were 30 people waiting for us for a dinner and David decided to go into the attic (where he had hidden the ring), I was shouting up asking what he was doing!!! He appears in front of me, drops to one knee and asks me to marry him. We got to go straight to all our family and friends and announce that we were engaged!
Why did you choose your wedding location?
E: We decided on a small destination wedding and visited a number of venues in Italy. Casale Doria Pamphilj was small and intimate and everyone could stay with us in the venue. Our minds were made up as soon as we walked in. It was BEAUTIFUL, the gardens were amazing and the staff treated us like royalty. The food was amazing, it was just perfect.
Italy will forever have a special place in my heart.
How and why did you choose your wedding dress, your Daalarna gown?
E: I had a unique style in mind that was timeless and effortless to wear. Our wedding was naturally going to have a rustic even boho feel due to the setting and I was conscious of the heat in Italy so I looked at lots of styles. When I came across Daalarna, the style, the material and designs I knew Daalarna was exactly what I wanted. When I tried on my dress the decision was easy, it was perfect! It came down to a decision between two Daalarna gowns. I felt beautiful in my gown.
How was the big day? What are your favourite memories from your wedding day?
E: Our wedding day the best day of my life. Seeing my family so happy and the love and the support from all the people who were there meant so much. Having our daughters there with us and celebrating us a family of four coming together was so special. They were there while David and I made a commitment to love each other forever made it extra special.
Which were the most beautiful moments of the event?
E: Walking from the room where I was getting ready, with my parents, daughters and my best friend to the garden where the ceremony was taking place really stands out, I felt so calm. I saw David shedding a tear as he saw our daughters and I for the first time and that really was lovely.
Diana Rossi of Blessings from Italy speaking during the ceremony, she told the story of how we met and what we feel about each other. She read a passage from Captain Corelli’s Manadolin and I will never forget it.
Do you have any special traditions in your country when it comes to weddings?
E: Irish weddings are family events and full of fun. I was delighted that we had a very Irish wedding but a very Italian relaxed day full of food, dancing and wine!
If you could give one advice to our future brides, what would it be?
Take your time and stop to take it in at points during the day. Before you walk down the aisle, stop for a couple of seconds, take a chance to really enjoy that moment and remember it forever.
