Inspired by the pure beauty of nature, Daalarna’s latest wedding dress collection BREATHE inspires brides to embrace the principle of “less is more” on the big day. The campaign images were taken in the Austrian Alps, in the diverse landscapes of the picturesque region of Salzkammergut.
At Daalarna, simplicity isn’t just a trend; it’s a timeless reflection of the brand’s essence. Designer Anita Benes has always believed in the timeless beauty of simplicity, and its aesthetic has been a defining element of the brand from the very beginning. “The simple, pure elegance that is now in its heyday again is not a newfound fascination for us, but a philosophy encoded in the DNA of the brand. It’s no coincidence that our brand name, Daalarna, is named after a Swedish region, as I wanted to express my admiration for minimalist Scandinavian design. From the very beginning, my aim was to represent a new, minimalist direction from the extravagant, costume-like bridal gowns of the 2000s, and this is one of Daalarna’s strongest stylistic features to this day.”
BREATHE is a collection of clean and simple shapes, restrained use of materials and the principle of “less is more”.
Anita Benes drew inspiration from the diverse elements of nature to design the collection: the airiness of the wind, the simple perfection of pebbles, the majesty of mountains, the purity of snow, the variety of wild flowers and the sparkle of glaciers all inspired the wedding dresses.
Exciting shapes found in nature, such as ferns, wild flowers like the edelweiss and different leaves are also reflected in the lace motifs on the dresses, which represent a distinctive, modern alternative to traditional lace. The lines of many of the dresses in the collection evoke asymmetrical mountain lines and the shimmer of sunny mountain streams. One particular piece was inspired by the exciting curves of glaciers, reinforcing an important message of the new collection: nature is the greatest master of creation and the most perfect source of inspiration.
The BREATHE collection also includes accessories such as ponchos, cardigans, pelerines and boleros, which keep the brides warm for an autumn or winter wedding without compromising on style.
Over the years, Daalarna has always strived to use increasingly sustainable materials, and the BREATHE collection is no exception.
“Between 85 and 90 percent of our materials come from Europe, and our dresses are made in our atelier in Budapest, where we employ more than 40 people. Highly skilled professionals tailor, sew and embellish the garments to ensure that every Daalarna bride feels their best on their big day.”
But the “BREATHE” collection is not just about the dresses: with the name of the collection, Anita Benes also wants to send a message to brides. “I encourage brides to take a deep breath and take a moment to find their inner peace amidst the noise of wedding preparations. This calmness can help them to be truly themselves on their big day and really focus on what’s important.”
