Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue — of the four traditional elements of bridal custom, perhaps the last remains the most mysterious. Daalarna’s new Something Blue bridal collection places this motif at its very centre.
The Something Blue collection brings together more than two decades of Daalarna’s couture heritage with the dreamlike self-image of the contemporary bride.
In recent collections such as Breathe, Serenity, and Promise, Anita Benes explored different shades of minimalism — clean lines, delicate structures, and a modern kind of romance. While this visual language remains one of Daalarna’s defining signatures, Something Blue reveals another dimension of the brand.
Reinterpreting tradition in Daalarna’s new collection
Daalarna’s Something Blue collection brings its own contemporary interpretation of this tradition to life. Rather than simply referencing it, the collection transforms the idea into a rich visual and cultural narrative shaped by centuries of symbolism — layered with emotion, social meaning, and timeless elegance, all attuned to the world of the modern bride.
The atmosphere of the new campaign film draws inspiration from the playful yet refined mood of period costume stories. Throughout history, shades of blue carried special significance: because of their rarity, they were long associated with social status and privilege. It is no coincidence that blue plays such a defining role in visually rich historical universes — including worlds like Bridgerton.
In the film, the meaning of blue unfolds not through a single motif but through a layered visual narrative filled with detail. The almost theatrical abundance of desserts inspired by historical eras evokes both the richness and the playfulness of the period — their entire concept and execution were created by Egy Csipet Torta. The blue butterfly appears as a symbol of freedom and lightness, and thanks to the team at Motobutterfly, a real living butterfly could safely become part of the shoot.

The prominent presence of blue gemstone jewellery — created in collaboration with W.Kruk — also reflects deep historical traditions. In the 18th and 19th centuries, gifting such jewellery was not merely an aesthetic gesture, but a symbol of commitment, loyalty, and serious romantic intention. This subtle ritual of courtship is echoed in the appearance of gloves as well. In brief moments, the motif of a blue book also appears — referencing another meaningful historical gesture: the gifting of a book as an expression of intellectual connection, respect, and genuine interest.
These layers of meaning eventually shaped the role of “something blue” within European wedding tradition, where it became an intimate — often hidden — detail of the bridal look: a small, personal symbol carrying a story known only to its wearer.

Your own “something blue”
Today, the tradition of “something blue” can take almost any form at a wedding — yet it becomes truly special when it carries personal meaning. One of the most beautiful gestures of the Something Blue collection is that Daalarna’s seamstresses hide a small handcrafted blue bow inside every selected gown — a delicate tribute to tradition and at the same time a quiet symbol of the intimate connection between bride and dress.
Blue can also appear in many other ways: in an elegant garter, a more expressive pair of shoes, or a refined piece of jewellery set with blue stones.

For the campaign shoot, Daalarna selected the timeless jewellery pieces of W.Kruk, whose blue gemstones not only complement the visual world of the collection, but also carry forward the deeper symbolism of the “something blue” tradition. We have also selected a few favourite pieces as inspiration for brides who would like to incorporate this beautiful custom into their own wedding day.
