We are free again. Before the pandemic, we couldn’t even imagine how happy we could be with something that used to be as normal as anything. While we don’t know how long this idyllic state will last, let’s try to enjoy every moment and rejoice in what has finally been given after a long wait. We are not worried about the past or the future, we are simply living in the present. It was from this idea that Daalarna’s new collection, IDYLL, originated, with an emphasis on playful outlines, ethereal material use and romantic silhouettes.
“They say we only really appreciate something when we lose it. This is so true when I think about this past period. It was high time for the weddings to be about carelessness and limitless joy again so that brides could calm down and enjoy the big day fully.”
“This liberated, sincere happiness was my main inspiration when creating the new IDYLL collection”, says Anita Benes.
The unique garden of the Esterházy Palace in Fertőd provided the perfect location for this imagined idyll. The castle’s park and the surrounding landscape have the large-scale, exemplary appearance of Baroque horticulture measured on a European scale, and one of its jewels is Margit Cziráky’s Rose Garden which measures more than a hundred meters.
“We photographed our previous collection in the interiors of the castle, but even back then, in the snowfall in February, I felt like I had to return to this beautiful garden in the summer as well. The captivating atmosphere of the noble rural landscape proved to be the perfect venue for the campaign images of the new IDYLL collection. ”
The playfulness of hundreds of colorful, fragrant roses is also reflected in the watercolor-like prints and polka dot materials of the collection, while the romantic atmosphere is provided by puffy sleeves and feather light tulles.
“Walking in the castle park of Fertőd, I am often wondering about how they could live here in the 18th century? What could the young ladies have dreamed of here, while walking with the ladies of the court among these beautiful roses? I imagine them crawling among the maze-like bushes while gossiping or trying to rebel against the fate their family had imposed on them.
At that time, love matches were still rare, so in most cases, the act of dreaming about Mr. Right or a secret meeting could only take place here, hidden in the garden.
For them, this park was probably the ideal world. It feels good to think about how much the world has changed since then: those who visit the palace these days can now marry for love and choose the love of their life freely. Sometimes it’s worth pausing for a moment and appreciating these things that are now taken for granted.”
